We wrapped up our regular meeting schedule with a potluck and stash sale in June.  We are happy to say that regular meetings will resume at the studio in Qualicum Commons in September.  Our agreement to occupy the studio has been renewed for one year.  So, while we are actively exploring the possibilities for a new “home” we have planned activities around the Qualicum Commons site for at least the fall of 2026.

Some of us are taking it easy at the beach or the cottage but many guild activities continue through out the summer.

If you check the calendar you will find that guild studio is still open for spinning and knitting drop in days.  The knitorious knitters meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month while the Spinners meet the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.  The library, yarn inventory and equipment rental are all still available. If you drop by the studio to check out a book also check out the latest studio project.  The project is based on “monks belt” and it can be woven to give different patterns.  The final product is a place mat.  If you are a member interested in participating in the project contact Rita.

The Exploring More study group will meet in person on August 28.  This group holds regular meets via zoom but once a year they get together for a show and tell of the pieces they have been working on.  This year the focus was on creating cloth that had interesting textural effects.  As you can imagine a photo doesn’t tell the whole story.  Nothing beats seeing the pieces in person.

This month, Vera and Carol hosted the summer dye day.  Participants got to try their hand using an indigo dye bath on a variety of materials including yarn and cloth.  The cloth was dyed with resists.  For those who would like to explore dyeing with natural materials there will be a workshop in August.  We will also be out in the community in August.  Look for us at the Qualicum Beach Museum’s Children’s Day on August 21st and at the Lighthouse Fall Fair on September 5th.
