Pine Needle Basketry with Vera Lohse - Back by popular demand - Have you ever wondered how to make a pine needle basket? Vera Lohse will guide you through this very unique project. In a one day workshop you will complete a delicate little basket that can hold a few trinkets or hold a special place on your mantle. Using locally found, long pine needles you can create a small basket with a leather base. This base can be painted to match your thread or needles if you wish. There will be different shaped bases to choose from. The technique you will be using is called coiling. You will be stitching the basket together with waxed thread and a needle. You decide what size and shape your basket will be.

Instructor:  Vera Lohse is an experienced instructor in Basketry, Dyeing and Spinning. Vera made her first basket as a child. As an adult in 1990 and early 2000, she pursued basket making and silver smithing. Her baskets and jewellery were sold at craft shows and galleries in Ontario. As her success grew she took on teaching basket making and later felting workshops. After moving to Vancouver Island, 6 years ago, she was introduced to harvesting willow bark and cedar bark and began making baskets again with the natural materials. She is an active member of our guild sharing her knowledge and her artistic talents. Vera’s artistic endeavors are carried by the Salish Sea Gallery in Bowser.

Experience Level:  No prior experience needed, just a keen interest in learning something new. If you have taken a Basketry Workshops before Vera will challenge you with new stitching techniques and also how to make a lid or handles for your basket.
