Introduction to Boundweave (Code: BW-24.2)

place QWSG Studio 744 Primrose Street, Qualicum Beach, BC, Canada expand_more

Date: Saturday March 9, 10:00 – 2:30 in person Workshop (half hour break for lunch) One Day Workshop

Introduction to Boundweave:  Boundweave is a Scandinavian rug or wall hanging weaving technique. In Sweden they call it Bound Rosepath using 4 or 5 shafts and in Norway they call it Krokbragd and it is woven on 3 shafts. Participants in this Workshop will learn how to create figures and designs without inlay or hand manipulation. The designs will be geometric, or theme based ie seaside, sheep or Christmas for example. In this Workshop you will learn the treadle technique that creates the design by packing down the weft picks to conceal the wide spaced warp. Participants will need a four or eight shaft table loom and must be able to warp the loom. The table loom will be prepped at home before the in-person day of the Workshop. Prep Work – Detailed instructions will be emailed to each participant once they register. Participants will supply their own warp and weft materials, make their own warp and warp their looms. The participants will then attend the in person Workshop session with their warped table loom. On that day they will learn and practice the techniques to complete their Boundweave projects at home. By the end of the Workshop students should have enough information to complete their project. If you can warp a loom and throw a shuttle, you can learn Bound Weaving.

Instructor: Rita Deverney - Rita learned to weave with Mary Bentley in Pender Harbour, British Columbia. Their Weavers Circle met on Wednesdays where Mary introduced the group to a variety of weave techniques and encouraged them to design their own patterns. She loves to weave and read about weaving and owns more than one loom. She can be caught working on a rug, overshot and boundweave, all year round, summer and winter.

Cost: members $60.00, non-members $80.00 (see Guild Membership below) This Workshop requires a minimum of 4 participants to host and has a maximum of 8 participants to ensure good teacher/student ratio.

Materials fee:   A $10 Material fee is included in the cost of this Workshop. Each Participant will be emailed step by step warping instructions once registered and a Booklet of instructions for completion at the in-person Workshop.
